The puzzle has already 10 answers in 1 hour. 7/10 are more of a lateral-thinking answers instead of using the story side of it... Unless there's more to this story that could be added, I think it's really too broad. It could be that I am wrong also...

To add a reason why I still decide to close this puzzle is that it's not original (unless OP is the author): link1, link2. And from those links, still there are debates and I believe the original answer is still too broad.

Strange but out of the box (Try not to laugh)
His wife was a jar of honey.
Explanation:
The man saw the chicken in the mircowave. He knew that someone had come in because he did not prepare chicken for dinner.
The woman asks
How much time she has left before being spread on the chicken (in trouble)
The man dialed 911
Because someone had broken into their house

According to WikiHow, heating chicken within a microwave for too long (which would be the natural result of the wife not paying attention to the time) leads to bacterial growth, which is unsafe.
His wife is a chef, or some similar profession who would be aware of this fact, so the husband can only assume she is in danger.

Another rock solid theory:
The man wanted to kill her wife himself, but he wanted an alibi: who would guess that the man, who called the police, would be the killer in the first place? He is running instantly to be sure that his timing is aligning up with his cover story.
And the motive:
He really hates chicken, and told her wife a thousand times not to cook that. Or, her wife is a serious PUBG addict, and the fact that she is making a chicken dinner shows that her case worsened again, which his husband can't take anymore.

She asks "how much time there is left", but she didn't specify if it's the time to cook the chicken. For example, she could be getting dressed to go somewhere and they have specified that they will leave at 8 pm. When she asks "how much time there is left" is how much time until 8 pm. She wants him to look in the microwave because they usually have a clock on when they aren't heating stuff.
The man dialed 911
Since the microwave is heating stuff, he can't see its clock, and if the woman asked the time, she thought it wouldn't be heating anything, so someone else has put the chicken there.

I'm not sure but reason should be like below.
The time left was 9 minutes 11 seconds.. i.e. 9:11, 911 is the emergency number..
More explanation
There is must be someone in bedroom and she already knew time of microwave but she ask to her husband when exact 9:11 time left.

She wants him to look in the microwave because they usually have a clock on when they aren't heating stuff.
The man dialed 911
Since the microwave is heating stuff, he can't see its clock, and if the woman asked the time, she thought it wouldn't be heating anything, so someone else has put the chicken there.

I'm not sure but reason should be like below.
The time left was 9 minutes 11 seconds.. i.e. 9:11, 911 is the emergency number..
More explanation
There is must be someone in bedroom and she already knew time of microwave but she ask to her husband when exact 9:11 time left.

Physics based idea:
He looked at microwave, observed that chicken dinner was put into a metal dish or food foil, ran out and called 911.

The time on the microwave is 9:11 and the man takes it as a warning that his wife left for him, and assumes she is in trouble so he calls 911.

The microwave door is open but the oven is running. The interlock has failed and the poor lady may have cooked her insides.
