I'm asking this because I got a ps2 game with what looked like minor scratches but when I put it in the system audio wouldn't work and, it wouldn't render the entire level. but if a ps1 game has scratches beyond belief it would work with very minor glitches. someone, please tell me why this happens

I'm not an expert, but this sounds like a system problem more a disk problem. I've had both PS1 and PS2 games run perfectly fine with lots of scratches - it just depends on where the scratches are. Regardless, this question is not suited for Arqade.

I'm afraid this is most likely going to be closed as off-topic but I have to say your speculation is just not true. I recall a number of times that a PS1 disk would no longer work for me from too many scratches I caused as a dumb kid.
